Green Turtle Yoga, founded 15 years ago by Tara Schroeder, is a welcoming yoga studio located in a beautifully converted barn in Center Ossipee. Tara’s journey into yoga began over 20 years ago, inspired by a former teacher. After completing her training at Kripalu 15 years ago, she began teaching at various studios before settling into her current space. Green Turtle Yoga has since become a beloved part of the Ossipee community, offering classes that focus on inclusivity, connection, and well-being.

Meet The Owner

Tara grew up in Southern New Hampshire and moved to Freedom in 1998. In addition to running Green Turtle Yoga, she works in environmental education, combining her passions for wellness, conservation, and community. Her teaching style reflects her belief that yoga is for everyone, and she takes pride in creating a space where students feel supported and empowered.

She has taught yoga to a wide range of students, from infants to seniors, and has led yoga programs at local libraries, summer camps, and private events. Her daughter, Eden, often joins her in photos, reflecting the family-oriented nature of her practice.

Community Connection

Green Turtle Yoga is more than a studio—it’s a community. Many of Tara’s students have been with her since the beginning, creating a sense of camaraderie and connection that makes each class special. Tara also gives back to the community through fundraisers for local organizations, such as the humane society, and by hosting yoga events in the Mount Washington Valley.

Why Practice Here?

Green Turtle Yoga offers a unique, welcoming space for anyone looking to improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Tara’s classes are accessible, inclusive, and designed to support students through both day-to-day life and major life transitions.

As Tara says, “Yoga is something you can start at any time in your life and do until the day you die. It will improve your well-being and support you through life’s challenges.”

Challenges and Future Goals

Like many small businesses, Green Turtle Yoga faces challenges, including seasonal weather impacts and the need to spread the word about its offerings. Most new students come through word of mouth, and Tara hopes to expand her reach to make the studio more sustainable. She also dreams of offering more retreats and classes in the future, further establishing Green Turtle Yoga as a centerpiece of the Ossipee wellness community.

Stop by Green Turtle Yoga to experience the benefits of yoga in a supportive, no-pressure environment. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, Tara’s classes offer something for everyone.
